Security at London’s Twickenham stadium has been upped for the Sound of Change concert over fears of a British Beyoncé stalker.
According to Britain’s The Mirror staff at the stadium have been “ordered” to keep an eye out for obsessed fan, Bassey Essien. The “Single Ladies” singer already won an anti-harassment order in the British High Court back in 2011, which prohibits him from pestering her. However, it is understood that Essien has continued his habit since 2009 of sending her threatening letters. The Mirror reveals that among his claims, according to court papers, is that she was an imposter and had killed the real Beyoncé.
The paper quotes a source as saying: “Staff have been briefed on the situation and pictures of him have been passed around. They’ve been told to keep their eyes open and be extra vigilant”. There has been no comment from the Beyoncé camp about the matter.
The latest security scare comes hot on the heels of the singer being slapped on the bum by a fan during her Copenhagen gig earlier this week and, understandably, has the Twickenham crew worried about a further incident.
The Chime for Change is a global concert event which puts girls’ and women’s issues front and centre. As part of this event, London’s “The Sound of Change Live” promotes education, health and justice for girls worldwide. Joining Beyoncé to perform are Jennifer Lopez, Florence + the Machine, Ellie Goulding, Rita Ora, John Legend and Timbaland with presenters Madonna, Gloria Steinem and Bishop Desmond Tutu.
