Would you go nude on Reality TV?
Several people including Kellie Nightlinger and Errol James Snyder are about to bare all on the Discovery Channel’s latest series: Naked and Afraid.
The new Reality TV show will follow contestants like Nightlinger and Snyder’s journey as they try to survive the wilderness for 21 days.
“It’s the ultimate survival show,” said Denise Cortis, Naked and Afraid’s Executive Producer, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. “Neither of them have clothes and by the time they are on the ground it is a complete non-issue.”
During their time on the show, contestants were allowed to only bring one personal item and were given a basic map of the area plus Go Pro cameras.
“The Go Pro Cameras were rolling at all times,” said Cortis. “We wanted scenarios that are so real they are unreal.”
Assisting the duos each episode is a four-man crew; they tracked their every move. They accompanied the duos to the world’s harshest environments including Panama, Boreo and the Maldives.
However, the crew kept their distance from the survivalists – other than to collect the footage from the Go Pro cameras, they rarely stepped in unless it was a life-threatening situation.
One possible life-threatening situation that made headlines last month was when Steven Rankin, a producer for the show, was bitten on the foot by a Fer-de-Lance during a scouting assignment for the show in Costa Rica.
“It’s one of the deadliest snakes in the world and the fangs went through my boot.” Rankin told TMZ.
Despite having a chunk of flesh being removed from Rankin’s foot, Contis stated that the injuries, nudity and risky situations were not aimed to provide shock value.
Naked and Afraid will premiere on Sunday, June 23 on the Discovery Channel.
