For 13 years, Simon Cowell has broken contestants’ hearts with his honest, sometimes brutally so, verbal barbs.
However, while Simon has received the occasional boos and been drenched in water by frustrated contestants, tonight’s Britain’s Got Talent final featured the judge getting egged on live television for the first time.
It all happened when fan-favorite opera act Richard and Adam Johnson were performing a cover of “The Impossible Dream”. During the song a woman (who was later identified by the Daily Mail as the Raven Quartet’s violinist Natalie Holt) walked out of the chorus line and fired eggs at Cowell.
Holt, who was a contestant in the sixth series of the U.K. version of Got Talent with her band, was successful at hitting Cowell on his jacket, before being escorted off the stage by the show’s security.
While Cowell laughed it off and stated that he thought that the egg throwing was part of the act, several Britain’s Got Talent alums and judges were not amused by Holt’s actions.
Longtime judge Amanda Holden called the BAFTA-nominated composer “a stupid cow” and her bandmates were equally peeved as they released this statement on Twitter:
“Just to clarify…. The other 3 of us were working elsewhere today and found out what you did.”
One of the show’s finalists, comedian Jack Carroll, kicked off his routine with the events that had just transpired.
“For my first joke, I was going to run out and throw some eggs,” joked Carroll. “That’s being brilliant!”
The joke received high applause from the BGT audience and made all four judges (including Simon and Amanda) grin.
