How many fans take to Twitter, Tumblr, YouTube, and other social media sites to record their reaction to what is happening in their particular fandom? I bet the majority of you. The ease of social media means that we can send our thoughts and feelings out into the world at the click of a button. However, how many people actually think that what they send out will be viewed or seen by those that it’s about? Well The Hobbit director Peter Jackson proved that they do have their eyes and ears directed to fan reactions.

Social media lit up on Tuesday with the first release of a trailer to the second instalment of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug with many fans recording their reaction to the trailer. However, for one lucky group of fans, their viral clip has attracted the attention of none other than Jackson himself. Not long after their video was posted online, Jackson uploaded it to his Facebook page adding: “This is pretty cute.” He then “replied” to the girls by posting a “sequel” video showing three of The Hobbit actors watching and reacting to their video.

The three elves, Orlando Bloom (Legolas), Evangeline Lilly (Tauriel) and Lee Pace (Thranduil), who are back in New Zealand filming pick-ups for the movies, are shown on set in full costume clearly enjoying the fan video, laughing along with it.

Bloom comments: “That is an elfin stare if ever I’ve seen one,” and Lilly states: “This might be more intense than the trailer.”

The camaraderie and enjoyment of being on set together comes through the screen clearly as the trio often dissolve into giggles throughout the clip and bandy each other’s lines back to each other.
