Some of Broadways most talented ladies will be coming together for the new movie musical Life of an Actress. Broadway performers Orfeh (Legally Blonde), Taylor Louderman (Bring It On) and Allison Case (Hair, Hands on a Hardbody) are set to star in the musical that tells the story of three struggling stage performers who double as waitresses.
Director Paul Chau, who is also a theatre producer, told Broadway.com that “Most Broadway shows close in a year, and when that happens, they’re out of work.” In the film, Chau aspires to tell the both passionate and painful stories of women in different decades of their lives and careers.
The film is partially inspired by real-life performers who Chau interviewed for his 2009 documentary of the same name.
Broadway.com reports that Chau developed a score full of pop tunes in hopes to avoid conventional Broadway sound. He said “When you start filming a traditional musical, it doesn’t work as well because it’s a live experience that you really can’t replicate,”
Broadway alums Richard H. Blake (The Wedding Singer), Bart Shatto (Les Miserables) and Xavier Cano (Grease) are set to star as the films leading ladies significant others.
Chau said of the film, “It’s about inspiration and human stories, and that’s what I hope the audience will see when they look into the lives of these three women,” reports Broadway.com
