It seems like fans of the hit movie Bridesmaids are unlikely to see a sequel to the movie that grossed $288 million at the box office.

Melissa McCarthy and Maya Rudolph have both said they would be interested in returning to a sequel. In an article in Harper’s Bazaar Kristen Wiig has said she has turned down the opportunity to write a sequel.

Studio bosses approached Wiig and her writing partner Annie Mumolo about a sequel.

Wiig said: “It wasn’t a hard decision.  “We knew during the first one, this was it. We would have made a lot of money if there was a second one, but that’s not my goal in my creative life.”

Wiig also said in the interview that she finds her new role as romantic comedy female lead a strange one.

“When people first started recognizing me, they always gave me a second look because they didn’t really know what I looked like.”

“For a long time it was my job to be an unattractive older woman or a creepy-looking child.”

Her new movie Girl Most Likely which also stars Glee heartthrob Darren Criss opens in the US on July 19 and in the UK on July 26.
