Westboro Baptist Church has found a new set of victims in boy band One Direction. The “Church,” famous for protesting military funerals and its unabashed and continuous fame-whoring, has dubbed the band “perverts”.
Westboro is known as a hate group and is closely monitored by the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defamation League.
The Huffington Post reports that Westboro has described One Direction as “a perfect representation of this filthy world and the sin-chasing, fag-enabling, God-hating, Christ-rejecting UK.” Westboro has also previously designated Taylor Swift as a “whore”.
Along with the name-calling, Westboro announced that they plan to picket the band’s concert scheduled for July 19 in Kansas City.
Westboro also stated that: “These freaks and their fans think it’s funny for these five perverts to grab each other’s asses on stage. They glamorize sin and make a mock of God’s standards.” The Church ended their current tirade by releasing a parody of the band’s hit “Kiss You” that replaces the original lyrics with ones about obeying God’s word.
On June 30, The Vaccines told Digital Spy that One Direction is actually more creative than they are credited with. Justin Young stated that: “They’re really nice guys and more creative than many people would probably believe.”
I think One Direction is great. They’re talented, energetic, and (duh) so cute. They remind me of ‘N SYNC, which is in no way a bad thing. I hope that they don’t get too hung up on the hate mongering of others. They aren’t Westboro’s first undeserving victims, and they certainly won’t be their last.
