In the spotlight since the early 80’s, the New Kids on the Block know a thing or two about fame – and they want to share their wisdom with current teen pop sensation (and veritable train-wreck) Justin Bieber.

Bieber, who was discovered in 2008 at just fourteen years old, has recently been heading down a questionable path; he’s being sued for assault by a photographer who claims Bieber injured him last year; and he’s potentially facing a battery charge against one of his neighbors. Despite these claims, the NKOTB told E! News that they don’t want the world to judge Bieber too harshly – and advise Bieber to simply ignore the negative press he’s receiving.

“We don’t know how many stories are exaggerated,” said NKOTB member Jordan Knight. “Don’t listen to the hype of the media… Just be you, have fun. Have fun would be the main thing [I’d tell him]!”

Band-mate Joey McIntyre agreed with Knight, saying, “When I think of what I did when I was 19 or 20, I made some mistakes and I think we all have. Unfortunately for some people, they have to live it all over the world or all over the internet.” McIntyre mentioned how much he sympathizes with Bieber. “You kind of feel for the kid. He’s probably making some mistakes but hopefully he will get through it and realize there is more to life than playing arenas.”

Both NKOTB and Justin Bieber are currently on tour.
