When Once Upon A Time and Grimm launched, followed closely by Mirror, Mirror and Snow White and The Huntsmen entertaining audiences on the big screen; it started to seem as though fairy tales were all the rage.
Now it appears that this year, Hollywood has decided that there haven’t been enough tellings (and retellings) of Dr. Frankenstein and his monster. Therefore, 2014 could potentially end with not one, not two, but 3 films based on the 1823 Mary Shelley novel about the eccentric scientist and his masterpiece-gone-wrong!
Guillermo del Toro recently told The Daily Telegraph that he would like to direct fandom-favorite Benedict Cumberbatch in an adaptation of the famous novel. According to Digital Spy, “Cumberbatch has previously played both the monster and Dr. Victor Frankenstein in Danny Boyle’s stage version of the story, alongside Jonny Lee Miller.” So should he land the role it would be a rather familiar one.
The other Franken-themed films include Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe in an as-yet-untitled film due for release in 2014, and I, Frankenstein, which stars Aaron Eckhart and Bill Nighy, which will also be out in 2014.
