It’s the scene that captured the hearts of women all around the world and secured Colin Firth’s position as arguably the definitive Mr Darcy. Hot and sweaty from a fast and hard ride from town, Darcy comes across a pond on his property, Pemberley, and decides to take a little dip to cool off.
On walking back to the main house, little does he know that he will encounter Elizabeth Bennet who, like the rest of us red-blooded women, can’t help but admire his assets. Now we can all have that experience… to some extent.
Unveiled in London is a huge Mr Darcy casually using the waters of the Serpentine to cool down during this London heatwave. The 12 foot high fiberglass figure of Colin Firth’s wetshirted Mr Darcy took three sculptors two months from design to dive into the waters in Hyde Park.
The stunning recreation of the infamous Pride and Prejudice scene marks the launch of the new TV channel Drama. It was chosen for depiction after it topped a poll last week of most memorable moments in British TV drama.
Following its stint in the Serpentine, the sculpture will tour the UK before finally being installed at Lyme Park in Cheshire, the location of the Pemberley exteriors for the 1995 drama.
