Tales of Xillia 2, the latest entry in the Tales franchise, will be released in US and Europe during 2014.  According to Digital Spy, the announcement was made during the 2013 Japan Expo which was held in Paris, France.

The game features character management and movement on a 3D ‘world’ map.  However during battles game-play shifts to isolated locations between the player(s) and their enemies. This is a typical Japanese Role Playing Game (JRPG) style, although there has been an upsurge of action oriented gameplay in recent times.

The battles in Tales of Xillia 2 are more fast-paced and flexible and are not entirely restricted to the ‘each character takes a turn’ mode of play that was so prevalent in old school games like Dragon Warrior or the legendary Chrono Trigger. There’s a dodging mechanism, and for the group gamers out there, co-operative mode is available.

The game was released in Japan in late 2012, and has sold half a million copies.  This figure is below the sale expectations of the developer and publisher Namco Bandai Games.
