It’s no secret that a new Time Lord will be making his/her way to Doctor Who as the ever so charming Matt Smith, will not be returning as the 11th Doctor for the eighth series. But what does that mean for showrunner, Steven Moffat?
Moffat has no intentions to leave the BBC drama just yet, according to an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “At the moment I haven’t had enough and I’m thoroughly enjoying it,” he explained. As of now, he has signed on for series 8 and will help introduce and establish the new Doctor. “But that doesn’t mean I’ll be here for 20 years. There will come that day when I think it’s time someone else had a go and it’s time I did something else.”
Moffat, who is also the co-creator of Sherlock, has been with Doctor Who since its revival in 2005. He was a writer for the first four series, and since then took over Russell T. Davies’ duties as head writer and executive producer.
As for his plans for revealing the new Doctor, he plans on making the announcement as soon as they find out themselves. And if all goes as planned, we’ll see the new Doctor, whoever that may be, make his/her appearance in this year’s Christmas Special.
