According to the South China Morning Post, China is planning to end its 13 year old ban on video game consoles! But game manufacturers might want to wait just a minute before they start cranking out consoles, as there is one catch crucial to the reversal.

Companies such as Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo who are all dominators in the video game industry will have to manufacture their products in Shanghai’s new free trade zone if they wish to sell within China

The idea is to make the Chinese economy more competitive, and increase use of their currency on a more worldwide scale.

The notorious ban was introduced in the summer of 2000 by the government over concerns that arose due to the violent content of video games; that it might be detrimental to the mental health of its citizens.

According to Digital Spy, the black market for consoles has boomed ever since the ban. Do you think that the market will suffer with the end of the ban? Or will it continue to thrive due to the restrictions?
