During the development of the upcoming PS4 game Knack, Sony created a DualShock controller that is 50% larger than its regular size in order to experience the obstacles a young child deals with when playing a console game, reports Digital Spy.
According to lead architect Mark Cerny, the problem is not so much the complexity of the controller as it is the size. Children simply do not have hands that are large enough to reach the shoulder buttons, which are located at the top of the controller.
Due to the recent mainstream addition of touchscreen devices and motion controllers, it occurred to Sony that newer gamers would be less accustomed to traditional thumbstick-and-button controllers. The touchscreen craze really seems to be making its way across the world.
Makes you feel old, doesn’t it?
Apparently Knack will ‘bridge the gap’ between touchscreen gaming and traditional console gaming, offering both experiences.
