In the wake of the tragic death of Glee’s Cory Monteith, Josh C. Waller – the director of Monteith’s last movie before the untimely pass, McCanick – has released a clip of the crime film to Yahoo! Movies

In the film, Monteith plays a, “violent and drug-addicted street hustler,” named Simon Weeks. He stars opposite David Morse who is the “detective on his trail.”

Take a look at the clip below:

In an interview with the LA Times, Waller said that he had seen Monteith’s work on Glee and didn’t think he was right for the role, “But when I met with him, he wanted to do it so badly. He was very vocal about his past, and said he wanted to tap into things from his youth that he hadn’t been able to use as an actor yet.”

Waller said that he could tell the flying back and forth from filming as Finn in LA to filming in Philadelphia as the darker character Simon was a “cathartic experience” for him, even if Monteith never admitted it.

According to Waller, McCanick was going to be the next step in Monteith’s life because he knew that Glee wasn’t going to last forever.

“He was like, ‘I know I can’t be on that show forever, so I’m starting to prep myself for when it’s not on anymore.  With McCanick, he was starting that trajectory — like, ‘Let me nip this in the bud right now.”

There is no release date set for McCanick at this point, but as reported by the LA Times, Waller has submitted it to the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) to be considered as one of the films for the early September festival.
