In an interview with Huffington Post Entertainment Senior Writer Mike Ryan, Dame Helen is quoted as saying she thought the first Iron Man was “fantastic.”

Not for any pop-culture/geek reason, but because, “from the moment it starts to the moment it ends, you’re just with it, you’re enjoying it, it’s fun, it’s funny – that’s what an action movie should be”.

She also finds, “watching the result of an incredible amount of artists’ work on the screen…extraordinary”.

Seeing as she is fluent in French, it is not surprising that she is also a fan of what she calls her “French intellectual movies”.

The Ryan interview was in advance of the release of Mirren’s latest film Red 2 – opening on Friday, July 19 – with Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Bruce Willis.
