Next-Gen Shooter Titanfall Destroys Competition in Critics Awards

Titanfall, the new mechanized first person shooter, and developer Respawn Entertainment’s debut video game, has raked in a total of six awards (‘Best of show’, ‘Best Original Game’, ‘Best PC Game’, ‘Best Action Game’, ‘Best Console Game’, and ‘Best Online Multiplayer’) and has been named best game of E3 2013, reports Digital Spy.

This may seem seeing as Titanfall is Respawn’s first game, but not so, my friends. The newcomer game studio was co-founded by Jason West and Vince Zampella.  The pair had previously worked at and co-founded Infinity Ward, the creator of the military juggernaut Call of Duty. So you might say that Respawn has quite a bit of experience when it comes to first person shooters.

The game itself aims to reinvent the genre, which has been getting quite stale recently. Gamers can look forward to expanded mobility by way of free running and jetpacks, as well as the titular ‘Titan’ mechs.  These allow players to jump into them at any time and wreak havoc on their opponents. The game runs on Valve Corporation’s Source game engine. This is the engine that gave us legendary games such as Left 4 Dead 1 and 2, Team Fortress 2, Portal 1 and 2, and of course the godly Half Life 2.

Here’s hoping Titanfall will join their ranks.
