DC might not be ready to follow in Marvel’s footsteps with a Justice League film, but that doesn’t mean we won’t soon be seeing our favorites from DC paired up to fight evil!

Announced today, the sequel to Man of Steel may not be your average follow-up feature – we’ll get to see Henry Cavill’s Superman come face to face with Batman! Sadly, as he’s retired the mask (and voice) for good, Christian Bale won’t be returning. Casting has yet to begin, but we’re excited! Who do you think should be the next Batman?

Production is set to begin next year, with an anticipated release of summer 2015. No word on the direction the story will take, but its director, Zack Snyder, has this to say about it: “I’m so excited to begin working again with Henry Cavill in the world we created, and I can’t wait to expand the DC Universe in this next chapter. Let’s face it, it’s beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest Super Heroes in the world.”

DC aims to have this film be a huge step towards finally putting together their Justice League film. Since that’s the case, does this mean we can expect to see other DC heroes get their own films, beyond these two heavy hitters and the ill-fated Green Lantern? Could we finally be getting a female superhero movie in the form of a Wonder Woman film? We don’t know for sure, but we’ll definitely be keeping our fingers crossed!
