A month ago we reported that director Marc Webber had decided to cut Shailene Woodley’s part as Mary Jane Watson out of Spider Man 2. Now the actress herself is saying it was a smart move.
“I think it’s really incredibly smart that she’s not in it, looking back at it now, because they’re introducing so many characters and MJ is such a vital character that it makes sense to hold off for future movies to introduce her,” Woodley told Empire.
However, Woodley may not be the one to help introduce the character in future; rumor has it that the role has been recast for the upcoming films.
Whether or not we’ll see Woodley play the redhead remains to be seen.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will open on May 4, 2014, with further sequels scheduled for June 10, 2016 and May 4, 2018.
