Lea Michele Holds Fate Of Glee In Her Hands

A few days ago, Ryan Murphy released his official statement and plans for Glee following the tragic death of star, Cory Monteith.

Murphy stated that he was deferring to Lea Michele, who plays Rachel Berry on the hit show, and who was also Cory’s real-life love. So much so that he would have gone so far as to cancel the smash hit, should that have been what Lea wanted.

In an exclusive interview with E! Online, when asked if he had thought about cancelling the show, Murphy responded: “Yes. If Lea had said to me, ‘I could never do this again and I don’t want to this again,’ you know, she is sort of the show, so what do you do?”

“And I would’ve, out of respect to her as a person, said ‘OK’, but that’s not how Lea operates; that’s not how she feels. She’s handled this with so much humanity and grace and she’s also handled this in a way where she’s trying to look out for 500 other people affected by him and who have mortgages to pay and families to feed.”

“That was never on the table for her and I said, ‘OK’. Nothing has been done and will be done in terms of any of the material without Lea blessing it and making sure it’s OK with her – and she has been.”

While it’s been eleven days since the news of Monteith’s tragic death, due to an overdose broke, it is still fresh in the hearts and minds of Gleeks around the world. I doubt it’s something we will ever fully recover from.

I for one am extremely grateful that Lea has decided to honor Cory in the best possible way: keeping his legacy alive with Glee.

Glee’s season premier has been moved back one week from its original air date and will kick-off with a two-part Beatles tribute. The season’s third episode will honor Cory and reveal how he is to be written out of the story. After that episode, Murphy confirmed that the show will embark on a “long hiatus.”

As always, we at PopWrapped continue to send our thoughts and love to all those effected by Cory’s untimely death; may he rest in peace.
