Mycroft Takes The Iron Throne: Gatiss Talks Game Of Thrones

We’re very excited to see Mark Gatiss, Mycroft Holmes of BBC’s Sherlock, appear in the upcoming fourth season of HBO’s Game of Thrones!

The actor says he’s “overwhelmed” by the fan response to the announcement of his involvement in the series, so “excited” is probably an understatement, actually.

Gatiss says that he has already wrapped filming on the project, although the identity of his character is still under wraps.

As a matter of fact, at the Sherlock panel at Comic Con this past weekend he told Access Hollywood that he could reveal “nothing at all” about his part, aside from the fact that he “can do a Northern Irish accent.”

Let the speculation begin!

One of the biggest impressions that Gatiss got from the experience was one of utter confusion: “I’d read interviews with [Doctor Who] actors where they’d say things like, ‘I didn’t understand a word of it, but it was a lot of fun.’ And I felt a bit like that because there are so many names in Game of Thrones.”

We can’t blame him. On the TV show, over the past four years there have been upwards of thirty main characters – yes, just the main ones!

Never mind the number of characters in the books.

We’re not sure if anyone has ever counted them all, but you can check out a list of every single character mentioned in the A Song of Ice and Fire book series here

If you were confusing characters in Game of Thrones, know that you’re not alone! Gatiss says that actors who have been on the show for a while told him they still sometimes have the same problem. You’re in good company!
