Sorry Trekkies: This Star Trek 3 Director Rumor Is Debunked

Since J.J. Abrams will be boldly going to a galaxy far, far away in Star Wars Episode VII, it looks as though the film reboot of Star Trek is in need of a new director at the helm. 

For awhile it seemed like an announcement was imminent when it sounded like G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M. Chu was the top choice.

This rumor, however, has been discredited. Chu’s representatives told The Huffington Post that Chu has received no offer to direct the third Star Trek

Collider‘s editor-in-chief Steven Weintraub tweeted about it. From the tone of the tweet it sounds like anyone who was hoping for Chu should put their hope to rest.

re: the STAR TREK 3 director…I’ve been hearing a different name than Jon M. Chu…but things obviously change all the time.

We do know one thing about third Star Trek director: it’s not going to be J.J. Abrams.

“He said it was unlikely that Paramount would wait another four years for such a film, in which case his ‘Star Wars’ schedule would likely conflict with it,” said The New York Times in a piece about Abrams back in May. 

Who would like to see direct the Enterprise?
