Kick-Ass, a 2010 action-comedy about superheroes was an instant success with audiences and critics despite the controversy it was associated with due to amount of violence and profanity in the film itself.  However, based on the popularity, momentum started to build for Kick-Ass by attaining quite the cult following after it was released on DVD and Blu-ray.

In the upcoming sequel Kick-Ass 2, returning stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson (as Kick-Ass), Chloe Grace Moretz (as Hit-Girl) and Christopher Mintz-Plasse (as Red Mist) will be sharing the screen with Jim Carrey who will be playing Colonel Stars and Stripes, an ex-mafia superhero.

Back in June of this year, Carrey decided that he will not promote the upcoming film and took to Twitter to address the issue.

Mark Millar, writer and producer, weighed in on the matter in an interview with Digital Spy by saying he was, “delighted” with Carrey’s decision to pull out of promotion.  According to Millar, Carrey actually did the movie a favour by attracting a wider audience.  Director of Kick-Ass 2 Jeff Wadlow added that Carrey’s tweets were not a part of some “ploy” to gain publicity.

What did Jim Carrey end up doing anyway?  …promote Kick-Ass 2.

Kick-Ass 2 will be out in the UK on August 14 and the US on August 16.
