Talk about method acting! Angelina Jolie has admitted to frightening real children while in character as Maleficent for her upcoming movie.

Speaking to fans at the Anaheim D23 convention, Jolie stated: “The strange thing was people with little kids would visit the set and I would think ‘I’m a Disney character’! I’d go over to the children and say hi and they would scream and run off. One little boy actually said ‘Mommy, tell the mean witch to please stop talking to me’!” Before showing footage of the 2014 film, Angelina admitted that working alongside her daughter, Vivienne, made the acting experience easier and more enjoyable. “She was the only 4 year old who wouldn’t scream,” Jolie said.

This Disney film is a spin on the 1959 classic, with further attention paid to the villainess which Jolie hopes will result in a different viewpoint and better understanding of the character. She stated “[it’s] from the point of view of the villain, so as beautiful as it was it also needed the edge, and to be a little sexy and a little darker.”

As we wait for further footage to surface, trailer reviews are appearing thick and fast with many paying close note to the D23 revelations. We can only hope for an official trailer soon as this film looks to be promising great things for next year.

Maleficent is slated for release 2nd July, 2014.
