This year at San Diego Comic Con Once Upon A Time co-creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis teased fans that Ariel will be making her debut this year!
After months of speculation, multiple sources including E, IGN, and TV Line have confirmed that actress JoAnna Garcia Swisher will play the popular Disney princess this season.
The news broke on Twitter earlier today when Horowitz tweeted out:
So thrilled to welcome @JoAnnaLGarcia to the #OnceUponATime family as our Ariel! Can’t wait to bring you under the sea!

Swisher took to Twitter to state that she is, “So honored 2 be able to play such a beloved character!”
Excited 2 finally be able to share that I will be swimming into @OnceABC as ‘Ariel’! So honored 2 be able to play such a beloved character!

Garcia Swisher has played strong female figures including Cheyenne Hart Montgomery on Reba, Megan Smith on Privileged and Dr. Nina Greene on Royal Pains, so Ariel will be a walk in the park.
Once Upon A Time returns for its third season on Sunday, September 29 on ABC.
