Nominated for six Moon Men (tying with JT) the duo will make history when performing LGBT anthem “Same Love”. The Seattle singing sensations have already had a phenomenal 2013 with hits “Thrift Stop” and “Can’t Hold Us” both reaching number 1 on the U.S Billboard Hot 100 Chart. This achievement made Macklemore and Ryan Lewis the first duo in the charts history to have their first two singles achieve number one status.

Their new single has become an instant LGBT anthem as the aptly titled “Same Love” showcases the duos support of same sex marriage. The song was written to support Macklemore’s two gay uncles and godfather and features the vocals of gay singer-songwriter Mary Lambert who will be joining them on stage. The powerful words also condemns homophobia in the hip-hop industry with lyrics including; “If I was gay I’d say hip-hop hates me. Have you read the YouTube comments lately?”

The VMAs will take place on August 25 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Centre. Check out the tear jerking video below which has been nominated for best video with a social message. Good luck boys!
