Fans, the Moff has spoken. Sherlock won’t continue without its Watson and Holmes. And by Watson and Holmes we mean Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.

While some franchises with as much success as Sherlock would try to continue without its main stars, Steven Moffat has said it won’t happen.

“That show could not continue without Benedict and Martin. It’s absolutely them,” stated Moffat at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Well, then. That just means that Sherlock won’t continue in the vein of franchises like James Bond or even Doctor Who, which is fine by us here at PopWrapped. Freeman and Cumberbatch have made the show and have lifted it up far past anyone’s expectations. And the fans love them as well.

RadioTimes recently spoke to fans during a #Setlock about what they think makes the series. A fan named Matt stated that Sherlock offers “a witty portrayal of a famous story”. Another fan, Lucas, stated that “Benedict Cumberbatch has got a unique look. He’s handsome and unique.” And of course, we all know the girls just fawn over Cumberbatch and his cheek bones.

So, members of the Cumbercookies (as one fan called them) and Freeman-ites, expect to see at least a few more series with your favorite leading men. The duo have repeatedly told reporters that they’re happy to return and keep doing it. Which is completely awesome and fine by Steven Moffat who wouldn’t mind seeing the detective pair grow old on screen together.

Sherlock is set to premiere on the BBC sometime next year.
