Whovians and fans of Peter Jackson need to put their party favours away as it appears the Lord of the Rings director will not be directing any Doctor Who episodes in the foreseeable future.

Fans’ expectations were raised over the weekend following reports that Jackson would be directing an episode of the latest series of the hit sci fi show. However, Deadline has refuted these claims stating that there are no immediate plans for the self-confessed Whovian to direct.

What has emerged is that Jackson has been extended an open-ended invitation to direct for the series if he was ever available. However, talks have not progressed any further than that.

Given Jackson is in the middle of completing post-production on the second and third films in his Hobbit trilogy, it is unlikely that his schedule is going to free up any time soon as much as we would love it.

The 50th anniversary special of Doctor Who will air worldwide on November 23 with Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hitting cinemas mid December.
