For 12 years, Randy Jackson resided in American Idol’s music producer chair.

Jackson announced at the end of the 2013 season that he would be vacating the show, leaving producers scrambling to find a new producer to occupy “the Dawg chair.”

Last week, PopWrapped reported that Idol producers had lunch with mega producer Dr. Luke on the possibilities of joining returning judge Keith Urban (and potentially Jennifer Lopez) on the show’s judging panel.

Numerous sources including Deadline, E News and Variety have reported that the hit maker (real name: Lukasz Gottwald) has signed a deal to join the aging FOX competition show.

Dr. Luke will bring plenty of experience to the show as he was Saturday Night Live’s lead guitarist and has worked with numerous artists including Britney Spears (“Circus,” “Hold It Against Me”), Flo Rida (“Good Feeling”), Jessie J (“Domino”), Katy Perry (“Hot n’ Cold,” “E.T.”), Ke$ha (“Tik Tok”) and The Wanted (“Walks Like Rihanna”).

In addition, he has also worked with multiple members of the Idol family including alums Adam Lambert (“For Your Entertainment”), Bo Bice (“U Make Me Better”),  Daughtry (“Feels Like Tonight”) and Kelly Clarkson (“Since U Been Gone”).   He also worked with two of the judges including Lopez (“This Boy’s Fire) and Nicki Minaj (“Va Va Voom”).

It will be interesting to see if Dr. Luke could be the second coming of Simon Cowell or perhaps even Kara DioGuardi?

American Idol returns for its thirteenth season in January 2014!
