Earlier this week, multiple outlets including PopWrapped have reported that music producer Dr. Luke will be joining American Idol for its 13th season.

Unfortunately, the hit maker behind songs such as “Circus,” “Since U Been Gone,” and “Tik Tok” declined the offer in the eleventh hour.

The Hollywood Reporter said that Dr. Luke would face a huge legal problem if he appeared alongside returning judge Keith Urban (and potentially returning judge Jennifer Lopez) on the FOX television show.

If Dr. Luke did sign on the dotted line, he would be putting his work with Sony Music in jeopardy.

As an American Idol judge, Dr. Luke would be looking for a couple of artists to be managed by Universal Music Group and not for Sony Music.

“It was all a go — [Sony Music CEO] Doug Morris said it could happen, and then Doug came back and said it can’t happen,” a source told US Weekly of why the deal fell through. “They had the lawyers with the contractual stuff about the conflict between Universal and Sony.”

With Dr. Luke out of the running, there is still one person that is on the show’s producers’ minds.

Talent manager Scooter Braun has found success with managing acts including Justin Beiber, Ariana Grande, Carly Rae Jepsen, and the Wanted.

In fact, US Weekly stated that there is one person that is already backing Braun for the spot.

“Jennifer loves Scooter and feels he’d be an excellent choice,” said an unnamed source close to the Lopez camp told US Weekly. “She would love him to be a judge.”

If they want to get Braun on board, the Idol producers must do it soon because American Idol: Season 13 is scheduled to start filming next month.
