Sir Michael Caine had fans around the world concerned for the well-being of James Bond recently when the German newspaper Bild am Sonntag quoted him as saying that Sir Sean Connery was “no longer in full control of his senses.”

Rumours spiraled with reports that Connery may be suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease. Caine had reportedly told the German media that “one must have serious concerns for [Sean]” but has now denied these claims, insisting that he must have been misquoted.

“It’s completely preposterous, bulls**t. This stuff about Alzheimer’s is just nonsense.”

Caine admitted that he had spoken to the German press whilst promoting a film recently, but expressed his dismay at the onslaught of rumours. “I can only assume that someone twisted my words or got the wrong end of the stick.”

He issued a comment to The Daily Record to clear the air. “I haven’t seen Sean for a couple of years, but my wife and I spoke to him on the phone on his birthday this week and he was very well.”

“He was fine, in complete control of his senses and his usual self. I have no idea where they are getting this stuff from. I know Sean was quite ill a year or so ago. But he is much better now and it was never anything to do with his mental state.”

As if we didn’t already know by now – you can’t believe everything you read.

Connery’s camp released a statement labeling the reports as “silly”, saying, “I am truly not going to give credence by responding.”

We can’t help but feel for Michael Caine in this situation! Do you think Connery should have responded?
