Yesterday marked the fiftieth anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s commanding “I Have A Dream” speech. Our nation’s capitol was alive with American citizens who had gathered to pay homage to the influential, forward-thinking civil rights leader; and social media saw more than a few notable Hollywood residents sharing their own “dreams” with their followers.
Entertainment Weeklyscoured Twitter and rounded up some of the best and most inspiring celebrity tweets that included the hashtags #dreamday, #MLK, and #Ihaveadream. A sampling of this list is below.

This writer has dreams, too. I dream that when my daughters enter the work force, they will receive equal pay and opportunities as all of their male peers. I dream that every global citizen will be given the opportunity to love and marry whom and how they want. I dream that tolerance and humanity will take greater significance than take-home pay and tax cuts. I dream that someone else will pioneer the fight that Martin Luther King, Jr. was unable to see to fruition. And, finally, I dream that we as humans will learn to stop and smell the roses, and to savor all of the beautiful things that life has to offer, rather than constantly yearning for more.
Thank you, Mr. King, for your indelible mark on this incredibly important cause, and for fighting the good fight. I only hope that we can continue to make strides in the name of civil rights, and do your legacy justice. Rest in peace.
