FX has just recently requested a new TV series pilot for a melodrama project Hoke with fellow actor Paul Giamatti set to appear.

Hoke is a gloomily witty melodrama based off of Charles Wilford’s book series Sideswipe, New Hope for the Dead, and The Way We Die Now.

The show is focused on Hoke Moseley played by Giamatti, who is a hard-boiled and likely an psychotic homicide investigator during 1985 in Miami, Florida. Scott Frank, who wrote Minority Report and Out of Sight’s films, serves as secretary and chief on the pilot episode of the upcoming series. If it gets picked up as a full time TV show, Scott will serve as the showrunner.

The executive producers for the show are Paul Giamatti, Curtis Hanson, Carol Fenelon, and Dan Carey. While FX productions will direct the pilot.

“Similar to Elmore Leonard, Charles Wilford is one of the most profoundly appreciated writers of crime fiction and he designed a thoroughly original and flashy lead character in investigator Hoke Moseley, ” said Eric Schier, president of original programming at FX Networks and Productions.

Schier continued: “Scott Frank conveyed a brilliant script and we are privileged that Paul Giamatti will bring this character to life. We are very thankful to Curtis Hanson, Carol Fenelon, Giamatti, and Dan Carey for bearing this project.”
