Jaime Lyn Beatty’s debut EP, Dolphin Safe Tunes, drops on September 17.

It was back in January when fans of StarKid first learnt that their very own Jaime Lyn was taking to Kickstarter to launch a campaign to fund her debut solo album.

26 days, 513 backers and with a total of $20,557 raised, the campaign was a success and Jaime Lyn was on her way.

The Kickstarter website describes Dolphin Safe Tunes as a collection of songs that Jaime Lyn has been working on for the past two years. They pay tribute to classic cabaret acts and Motown funk. And as Jaime Lyn says “The tunes are enriched with equal parts silliness and sass.”

If you don’t know who Jaime Lyn Beatty is, firstly, that’s unfortunate for you, but secondly, let me provide a little background.

Jaime Lyn was born and raised in New York City and is a proud graduate of the LaGuardia High School for Performing Arts (think of the school in Fame). After high school she attended the University of Michigan where she obtained her BFA in Acting.

While at UMich, Jaime Lyn and a motley crew of friends formed the musical theatre company, Team Starkid. Together with her friends, Team Starkid took the internet by storm in 2009, with the Harry Potter musical parody, A Very Potter Musical, which has so far reached in excess of 10 million YouTube views.

Since then she has toured the world with the rest of Starkid, performing in two sold out tours and 7 original shows.

So, as I said, September 17, Dolphin Safe Tunes…. Get on it!
