Jay-Z’s documentary about a music festival will premiere on Showtime on Oct. 11, at 9pm ET, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Showtime’s entertainment president, David Nevins, said in a statement, ”As soon as we saw this film we knew it was a perfect fit for Showtime. Ron Howard and Jay-Z have crafted an inspirational portrayal of American resilience, drive and creativity, interwoven with an incredible showcase of musical talent. We are proud to bring Made in America to Showcase where it joins our impressive roster of provocative and compelling documentaries helmed by award-winning filmmakers.”
The documentary, which is directed by Ron Howard, tells the story of the two-day music festival “Budweiser Made In America Festival”, and will make it’s first appearance at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 7th. The documentary features live performances and interviews from Kanye West, Odd Future, Janelle Monáe, Jill Scott, Run-DMC, Passion Pit and Pearl Jam.
This year’s festival line-up includes Beyoncé, Nine Inch Nails, Kendrick Lamar, Phoenix, Miguel, Queens of the Stone Age, A$AP Rocky, Wavves, Solange, Public Enemy, the Gaslight Anthem, AlunaGeorge, 2 Chainz, HAIM, Wiz Khalifa, Jess Rose, Cloud Nothings, Empire of the Sun, the Underacheivers and Diarrhea Planet.
The news came the same week as Jay-Z made headlines for debuting his video for “Holy Grail” featuring Justin Timberlake, on Facebook. Because of this, the video became the first clip by a music star to premiere on the site and with a 24-hour window. This is just one of the smart moves Jay-Z, who also did a $30 million deal with Samsung and has pushed into the sports agency business.
The deal to bring Made in America to Showtime was designed by CAA on behalf of the production.
