American Idol fans rejoice!

Multiple outlets including Billboard, The Hollywood Reporter and USA Today have confirmed that Harry Connick, Jr. will be joining the show’s judging panel!

The actor, singer and composer appeared on the show twice as a mentor for the 2010 and 2013 seasons and brought out the best in multiple contestants including Crystal Bowersox, Casey James, Angie Miller, Kree Harrison and Candice Glover.

The “Every Man Should Know” performer beat out an all-star group of candidates including Dr. Luke, will.i.am, Scooter Braun and former Idol alums Adam Lambert and Jennifer Hudson, to score a seat on the show’s judging panel. It will also include returning judges Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez.

All three judges have a monstrous task in front of them in repairing the show’s ratings.  Last season was filled with pitfalls that included the infamous Mariah Carey-Nicki Minaj feud, poor male contestants and fleeing viewers, which caused ratings could down.

Add to the fact that singers can also go on shows like The Voice, The X Factor and America’s Got Talent puts the long-running FOX show at a huge disadvantage.

Despite all that, longtime host Ryan Seacrest tweeted that the show will have some news for its viewers “very soon.”

Idol veteran Randy Jackson is also rumored to return to the show. He could be taking the place of in-house mentor and Interscope Chairman Jimmy Iovine, who recently stepped down from the show.

American Idol is scheduled to return in early 2014.
