If you even have the most periphery knowledge of comics, then you’ll know that the Marvel universe is a big, expansive place. It is a place where the X-Men and the Avengers can exist simultaneously.

Television on the other hand? Yeah, no dice.

Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD will not mention the X-Men in any capacity. In fact, they aren’t even allowed to use the word mutant.

According to Digital Spyexecutive producer Maurissa Tancharoen confirmed that a rights issue prevents them from mentioning the other famous Marvel team on the ABC drama.

This may be to the show’s benefit as they are trying to focus on the more human side of the emerging world of superheroes. Co-executive producer Jed Whedon said: “There is a danger of creating an expectation that [they] are going to see the sequel to The Avengers.”

The rights of the X-Men are owned by 20th Century Fox studios. They are holding onto those rights tight with X-Men: Days Of Future’s Past coming out next summer. There is also a chance that X-Men will cross over with the reboot of the Fantastic Four franchise.

Still don’t get your heart set on any familiar Marvel super-faces to appear anytime soon on the upcoming show.
