Sacha Baron Cohen is to be awarded the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy at the Britannia Awards in Los Angeles on November 9.
Cohen, who is known for playing and creating infamous characters like Bruno and Borat, recently took part in Martin Scorsese’s Hugo, and the film adaptation of the popular musical Les Misérables alongside Helena Bonham Carter and Hugh Jackman. The actor also recently pulled out of playing the role of Freddie Mercury due to “creative differences” with the film’s producers.
The actor has already won two BAFTAS in 2000 for the Da Ali G Show, in which he starred and also wrote. He also won a Golden Globe for Best Comedy Actor and received an Oscar nomination for his screenplay for Borat, which he followed by Bruno and The Dictator.
Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch will be named British Artist of the Year; George Clooney will be presented with the Stanley Kubrick award for excellence in film; director Kathryn Bigelow will accept the John Schlesinger award for directing; and Sir Ben Kingsley will be honoured with the Albert R Broccoli award for his contribution to entertainment.
Cohen can be seen next in the eagerly awaited film Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, which is due for release on December 20th.
