Most fans tend to frown at sequels, as they usually don’t live up to the original and just don’t do as well at the box office, but it looks like the G.I. Joe franchise is still striking while the iron is hot. Paramount Pictures has confirmed that there will in fact be a G.I. Joe 3.

The sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which came out earlier this year, grossed $371 million worldwide, which is actually more than the franchise earned for the first movie, which earned $302 million.

Stars in the other two films have included Dennis Quaid, Bruce Willis, Dwayne Johnson and Channing Tatum. However, there’s no word yet on who has been cast for the upcoming film, as there are very few details that have been released.

But, we do know that the scribe of Snow White and the Huntsmen, Evan Daugherty, will be the screenwriter of the upcoming installment. He has recently worked with Paramount on the rewrite for their upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. He also helped write the screenplay of the anticipated film, Divergent, based on the young adult novel by Veronica Roth.

Another thing we know about the third movie is that Jon M. Chu will be returning as the director. From a video interview with Digital Spy, Chu did earlier in the year, it seems as though he has been giving these story lines a lot of thought and is pulling inspiration from childhood memories and even Dr. Strangelove

It should be interesting to see whether this second sequel will live up to the other two films at the box office!
