Robin Thicke has released his “Blurred Lines” North American tour dates for early 2014.
It kicks off in Atlanta on February 21st and ends in San Francisco on March 29th.
English singer/songwriter Jessie J and DJ Cassidy were chosen to support the fifteen-date tour.
Thicke and Jessie J’s recent duet “Criminal Hearts” will be featured on DJ Cassidy’s debut album, expected to be released at the end of this year.
“Blurred Lines”, a single written and performed by Thicke, Pharrell Williams, and T.I., has claimed the number one chart position in fourteen countries, including the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the U.S. It is Thicke’s highest charting song to date.
Controversy recently arose after Robin Thicke’s performance of the song at the MTV Video Music Awards. Miley Cyrus joined him onstage for a duet and to show off some seriously provocative dance moves.
It caused quite a stir for days afterwards, with shock being the dominant reaction in many cases.
“We knew what we were getting ourselves into. We’re entertainers, and the VMAs is the perfect place for a little shock and awe…But that was the whole point. I mean, the whole point was to excite and provoke and entertain,” Thicke told Star magazine.
He may have wanted to entertain, but not everyone’s okay with the message behind the song.
In fact, it was recently banned from Edinburgh University’s campus in the UK. According to the Huffington Post, the school has a new campaign geared towards ending the myths and stereotypes that surround sexual violence. “Blurred Lines” is considered highly offensive and degrading to women.
If anything, all of the uproar has only boosted the single’s success. It saw a considerable rise in sales directly after the VMAs performance.
