Emmy Season Opens With the Awarding of the Creative Arts Emmys

We’re one week away from the 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards and the countdown has officially begun! The 2013 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards took place Sunday night (September 15) with HBO’s Behind the Candelabra taking home eight out of its 9 nominated categories (only missing out to Top of the Lake for the cinematography award for movies or miniseries).

The Creative Arts Emmy Awards is known to recognize those behind the scenes as well as children’s, animated and variety programming. Guest acting awards are also presented during the ceremony. This year, the awards were presented at the Nokia Theatre and winners had a limit of 45-seconds to accept their award. So who took home this year’s awards?

Bob Newhart took home the award for Outstanding Guest Actor for his role on 2013 Outstanding Comedy Series nominee, The Big Bang Theory. This was the first Emmy win for Newhart after being nominated seven times in the past 50 years.

Melissa Leo won for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her stint on Louie. She beat out Elaine Stritch (30 Rock), Molly Shannon (Enlightened), Dot-Marie Jones (Glee), Kristen Wiig (SNL) and Melissa McCarthy (SNL).

Dan Bucatinsky (Scandal) is the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series, while Carrie Preston (The Good Wife) is 2013’s Outstanding Guest Actress. Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn of Project Runway won the award for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program.

The 66th Annual Tony Awards was recognized as the Outstanding Special Class Program and Nick News With Linda Ellerbee – Forgotten But Not Gone: Kids, HIV & AIDS took home Outstanding Children’s Program.

The hit AMC show Breaking Bad, which only has one episode left in the series, was nominated for a total of 13 Emmys this year and took home one Creative Arts Emmy for editing.
