Earlier today, The Killers premiered their new song “Shot at the Night” on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 programme. The song, which features a Day & Age-meets-Flamingo-meets-Flesh and Bone-meets-Epic guitar from any Killers record kind of sound is the lead single off their upcoming greatest hits album, appropriately called Direct Hits.

After the song premiered, singer Brandon Flowers talked with Zane Lowe about all the things leading up to this record and the styles and ideas that make them who they are as a band – “We never committed to one road”.

He also said the much talked about hiatus between 2008-2012 was “crucial” for all the things that followed, the release of Battle Born, their successful Battle Born World Tour, and now their upcoming record, which will feature Shot at the Night another brand new song called “Just Another Girl”, the rare original demo of “Mr. Brightside”, as well as other songs from their previous 4 LP’s.

When asked about if he had any other aspirations in life or things he wanted to do, Brandon answered “This is what I’m here to do. This is what I love”.

It’s been only a year since their last album, but they have sure been missed. Buy the new song on iTunes, and make sure you pre-order Direct Hits, either the regular or the Deluxe edition, on iTunes.
