This might be the most genius idea. Ever.
One of Downton Abbey’s crowning jewels, Elizabeth McGovern has recently stated that she would love for her cast mates to start a band. But who would be the lead singer?
Well, Lady Cora herself actually fronts a band called Sadie and the Hotheads – they even have upcoming gigs at London’s Hippodrome Casino in November. Who knew?
Meanwhile, Michelle Dockery who plays the delightfully straight-laced Mary on ITV’s hit show, is a trained jazz singer and guitarist off-screen. Allen Leech (Downton’s Tom) has also played with big bands in the past.
McGovern announced that she would love to pull the gang together for a charity performance of some sort.
“We happen to have a lot of musicians in the cast, but as yet we’ve never formalised anything. It would be interesting and definitely very different. I wouldn’t know which way we’d go musically, but it’s a fun idea.”
Michelle has performed with Sadie and the Hotheads previously, so who knows maybe we will see more formal collaboration.
Can we just say… Downton Abbey: The Musical? Yes please.
Tune in this Sunday (September 22) at 9pm on ITV to see the new season premiere.
