The first promotional poster for The Sound of Music Live! was recently released and as December 5th comes near, the cast is coming full circle. American Idol star, Carrie Underwood, will star in the revival as Maria Von Trapp, the role made famous by Mary Martin (Broadway production) and the iconic Julie Andrews (film). But who will be joining her?
You can expect to see three Tony Award winners take the stage this December. Audra McDonald, who has won a total of five Tony Awards, is set to play Mother Abess of Nonnberg Abbey, while Laura Benanti takes on the role of Elsa Schrader, Captain Georg von Trapp’s short lived fiancée. Christian Borle, who won a Tony for his role on the Broadway production of Peter and the Starcatcher and recently starred in Smash, will be playing Max Dettweiler.
Captain Georg von Trapp, the father of the seven von Trapp children, will be played by True Blood star, Stephen Moyer.
The three-hour production, based on the original 1959 Broadway production, will be directed by Beth McCarthy-Miller and Rob Ashford. Neil Meron and Craig Zadan serve as executive producers. Don’t forget to tune into NBC on December 5th at 8pm ET.
