Aaron Eckhart To Become New Exorcist

This may seem unusual, but it appears that The Dark Knight star will be starring in a low-budget, exorcism-themed film called Incarnate.

Brad Peyton, best known for his work on Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, has been drafted in to direct this upcoming film, and Ronnie Christensen has written the script.

Eckhart will be joining the ranks of A-list actors who turn to horror in an attempt to diversify their filmography. It rarely results in their best work, we must admit.

According to one of TheWrap’s sources, an individual familiar with the project, Eckhart was eager to join the Incarnate cast under Jason Blum’s Blumhouse banner. Blumhouse and IM Global are set to co-finance the film.

Production is expected to begin next month, with Eckhart picking up his role as an exorcist  who can access the subconscious mind of those who are possessed. In the film, Eckhart’s character must use his gift to help a nine-year-old boy who has been possessed by a demon from his past.

Blum is most famously associated with Paranormal Activity, so if this low budget endeavor is anything similar then it will be expected to yield a high profit. Executive producers on the film so far include Couper Samuelson, Michael Seitzman and Trevor Engelson.

As yet there doesn’t appear to be a US distributor attached, with Blumhouse International poised to handle all foreign sales. However, given Universal’s success with the Blumhouse micro-budget thriller, The Purge, we can expect the studio to pick up its US release soon.

Eckhart was most recently seen starring in Olympus Has Fallen and Erased, plus you will see him onscreen again soon in I, Frankenstein.

We all loved his performance as Harvey Dent in the first two films of the Dark Knight Trilogy, and he received a Golden Globe nomination for his popular role in the Jason Reitman comedy, Thank You For Smoking. So fingers crossed he won’t disappoint this time around.
