James Frain, best known for his work on True Blood and 24, has been cast to play guest-star, multi-episode role in the new Fox drama, Sleepy Hollow.

The drama is a contemporary take on the horror classic written in 1820 by Washington Irving titled The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and premiered on Fox last Monday. It stars English actor Tom Mison, playing the role of Ichabod Crane, who died in 1781 but suddenly awakes again over two centuries later. In the meantime, the Headless Horseman, whose head was chopped off by Ichabod not long before he died, starts killing people during the night.

The series will see Ichabod allying with the local population to try and hunt down the Headless Horseman, but the fact that he was born and raised in colonial America might lead to some interesting scenarios, especially since one of the people he has to work with is black.

According to TVLine, James Frain will play the role of Rutledge, a nobleman who keeps a dark secret that is a threat to Ichabod.

The series will continue with its second episode on Fox next Monday. Sleepy Hollow premieres in the UK on the Universal Channel on October 9th.
