The first half of auditions for week two rolled across our televisions screens last night, and despite some obvious duds, there were in fact some very promising auditions! Here are a few of the standouts:
First up was country crooner Colton Pack (and can I just say, I love his name!) who sang a convincing rendition of Jason Aldean’s “Hicktown.” The 18 year old, West Virginia native brought a good portion of his small hometown with him to auditions and he definitely didn’t disappoint them. Demi thought he was a little pitchy, but natural. Kelly and Paulina seemed to be having a slew of dirty thoughts and Simon “really, really liked him.”
Next up was the cute and unassuming Texan, Josh Levi. The 14 year old, who recently moved to Los Angeles to make his dreams come true, looks like he could already be a Disney Channel star AND had a voice that has potential to make the tween population swoon. Levi combined his Bieberiffic voice with a jazzed up Selena Gomez hit to wow the judges and the audience. After singing “Come And Get It” to Demi, little Josh Levi got 4 yesses.

One of my favorites of the night was the brother trio known as AKNU. Their Motown-esque cover of “Valerie” was exactly what Demi and Kelly said, “refreshing.” It was fun, different and I think Simon was right when he said the boys (well, men) were on the forefront of something. Every style has a resurgence, and Motown could be the be next one!
Unfortunately, Simon missed out on one of this season’s standout auditions so far. 15 year old Danie Geimer proved you can’t judge a book by its cover. The young lady with the big glasses, small voice and cute smile did not seem like the girl who would successfully rock out to “The House of the Rising Sun,” but she did. And she killed it. It was very reminiscent of another singing competition favorite of mine, Haley Rinehart from season 10 of American Idol.
