And the Emmy goes to… Breaking Bad for Outstanding Drama Series.

As the ratings have gone up for the 5th and final season of Breaking Bad, it has also been gaining more popularity, not only with fans of the show, but also with the critics. The show was nominated for the Outstanding Drama Series Emmy in 2009, 2010, and 2012. However, it took the final season for the series to finally take home its first win in this category tonight.

Breaking Bad had a total of 13 nominations, including Outstanding Supporting Actress, for which Anna Gunn took out the award for. However, fan favorites, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul both lost out in their categories.

They shouldn’t be too disappointed though as Cranston has previously won Lead Actor in a Drama Series three years in a row (2008-2010) and Aaron Paul also won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2010 and 2012. But have no fear, fans! The guys will still be eligible when Emmy season rolls around next year.

Creator, Vince Gilligan, said thanks to “the best cast on TV,” and added that they all feel very lucky to be part of the Golden Age of TV. This was Gilligan’s 6th nomination and his first win for the show.

The last episode of Breaking Bad will air September 29 on AMC at 9 p.m.
