“I believe in curses. I believe in demons. I believe in monsters. Do you?”
And with those words, the first teaser for upcoming Showtime drama Penny Dreadful is released. As with all teasers the trailer reveals nothing of substance, hence the term ‘teaser’. We have a woman’s voice, speculated to be Eva Green’s, over brief shots of what appears to be close ups of monsters.
The eight-part series will be set in Victorian London where we take a dive into the origin stories of classic literary horror characters like Frankenstein’s monster and Victor Frankenstein, Dracula and Dorian Gray.
Reeve Carney, Josh Hartnett, Billie Piper, Timothy Dalton, Harry Treadway, Rory Kinnear and Eva Green will star in the show which is set to air in 2014. Carney will be playing Dorian Gray, the mesmerizing immortal; Hartnett is an American who ends up in the dark corners of Victorian London where monsters lurk, Green is a seductive heroine of intrigue and Treadway is our Dr. Frankenstein.
The show is said to be a psychological reimagining of these iconic characters by director Sam Mendes and writer John Logan with Juan Antonio Bayona to direct Penny Dreadful‘s first two episodes.
