The hit ABC mockumentary Modern Family has managed to secure its fourth Emmy win this past Sunday night, and creator Steve Levitan took some time to discuss the historic win.

Modern Family took home yet another Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy for the fourth year in a row. Cheers, The Dick Van Dyke Show and All In The Family are the only other comedies who have previously won achieved this feat. The long running hit show, Frasier, is the only series to walk away with more Emmys, a record of five wins.

Steve Levitan told The Hollywood Reporter: “Obviously we are beyond humble to even be mentioned alongside these shows. For me personally, I grew up watching The Dick Van Dyke Show on WGN in Chicago. Reruns were on every day and it’s the reason I wanted to become a comedy writer, because I wanted to go and sit in that room with Bud and Sally and do this for a living. It is quite amazing. Cheers is one of my all time favorite shows. To even be mentioned alongside those shows, it’s mind-blowing and extremely humbling for all of us.”

Modern Family was further blessed on Sunday, with Gail Mansuco also grabbing an Emmy for Best Comedy Director. Mansuco said, “My parents let me watch as much TV as possible, and I drew a lot from the programs. My father was a really funny guy and my brothers were really funny. This seemed to be a natural progression.”

The special one-hour season premiere of the fifth season of Modern Family airs tonight on ABC.
